Polio Rehabilitation (Dayasagar)

India is one of the countries in the third world where the rates of Polio affected children are more. Medical cares for these tiny tots are quiet inadequate, and we have the biggest number of Polio affected children in Bihar. It was also noticed that the future of these children is bleak. Therefore we found that medical care and godly hope can infuse strength and courage and motivate them to face the challenges ahead of them. It has also been amply demonstrated all over the world that the crippled can become useful and productive citizens, leading close to normal lives, if they are given proper education and training. This motivated us to impart vocational training according to their ability by means of which they would be able to face their future with confidence.

They now have 301 such children. "DAYASAGAR" stands to serve as an existing model home in the whole State of Bihar.

Children Homes

GEMS Children Homes proffers a loving heart towards the suffering and contributes meaningfully to their lives. GEMS gave birth to the approach of instituting ‘HOMES’ as the fundamental block of bringing about wholesome transformation into such lives. Through all its banner GEMS HOMES, adds meaning to more than a hundred thousand lives regularly.

Currently GEMS provides the basic needs along with education to 2048 children out of which 1351 are cared in 48 different Homes mentioned below and remaining 697 children come under the village transformation projects.

Homes are widely categorized as follows

Homes for Orphans and Semi-Orphans

GEMS runs homes specially for children who are orphaned and for children with single parent. It toils to make their lives better and to give them a bright future by providing them education, food, clothing and shelter. Some of the children who had grown in these homes are now working as Headmasters and Teachers in the DCCs and few have passed their studies at a Bible College, while few more have gone for higher studies in various places.

Homes for the Poor and Tribal children

GEMS has instituted homes formarginalized, poor, needy and downtrodden people in the state of Bihar and few other north Indian states. Many of these children are from a background where they struggle to get even one meal a day, due to which they end up eating rats and other unhealthy stuffs to satisfy their hunger. Also knowing the fact that Bihar has number of tribes spread out in the state, GEMS chose to accommodate even the tribal children inorder to bring them out of their uncivilised life-style and also to fulfil their needs.

These homes for the Poor and Tribal children has brought about a transformation not only in their lives but also in their families and society. These children receive godly hope and love through these Homes.

Homes for polio affected Children

India is one of the countries in the third world where the rates of Polio affected children are more. Medical cares for these tiny tots are quiet inadequate, and we have the biggest number of Polio affected children in Bihar. It was also noticed that the future of these children is bleak. Therefore we found that medical care and godly hope can infuse strength and courage and motivate them to face the challenges ahead of them.

GEMS has named the Homes for polio affected children as ‘Daya Sagar’ which means ‘Ocean of Mercy’. These homes accommodate both polio affected male and female children providing them all facilities including education. These children are also given periodical treatment and are supplied with calipers and walking stick. They are motivated to do their primary and higher education. Intellectually gifted children are helped to do their higher education or vocational trade so as to make them self-sufficient and self-dependent in life. These children are almost trained to meet all their own needs like the normal children. Also, we concentrate on the value of holistic development in spiritual transformation and human dignity.

Home for ‘Neighbors’ Children

GEMS established Rashmi Home which literally means ‘Ray of Hope’ to minister to the children of neighbors. When their own people become their abusers and persecutors, the children of such Neighbors who are genuine seekers of the meaning of life and relationships are given a safe shelter to take wings under the roof of Rashmi Home. The Rashmi Home helps nurture these nascent buds into wholesomely transformed individual through spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical care. It provides education, counselling and vocational training to boost livelihood options for these displaced children.
